River, Swamp, and Coastline Create Pest Habitat
The Mattapoisett River flows south through town and empties into Mattapoisett Harbor, an arm of Buzzards Bay. To the north, Haskell Swamp sits in the Tinkham Hill area, surrounded by the rural, wooded ground of Tinkhamtown. The Nasketucket Bay State Reservation lines the waterfront near the Fairhaven border. With a river corridor, inland swamp, coastal shoreline, and stretches of undeveloped land, Mattapoisett supports mosquito and tick populations from early spring well into late fall. Mosquito Mike provides full-service mosquito and tick control for Mattapoisett homeowners. Available services include seasonal barrier sprays, targeted tick treatments, winter tick defense, and General Pest Control. We carry full Massachusetts licensure (pesticide license AL-0056150) and every technician is a credentialed Core Applicator.

Mosquito Control
The Mattapoisett River corridor and Haskell Swamp provide mosquitoes with consistent freshwater breeding habitat across the northern half of town. Along the coast, tidal areas around the harbor and Buzzards Bay shoreline add salt marsh habitat to the mix. But large water features aren't the only problem.
A trash can lid sitting behind the garage, a pool cover holding a few inches of rain, or a toy left upside down in the yard can each generate hundreds of mosquitoes within days. They become active once spring temperatures reach 55°F and stay active until the first hard frost. Our barrier spray program reduces mosquito populations by up to 90% throughout the season.
Tick Control
North of I-195, Mattapoisett's landscape turns rural quickly, with wooded lots and open fields stretching toward Rochester. This is prime tick territory. Deer move freely between these areas and residential neighborhoods closer to the village and coast. They are the primary reproductive host for blacklegged ticks, and each deer can carry dozens at a time.
You don't need to be in the woods to encounter them. Picking up fallen branches after a storm, stepping off the mowed lawn onto a leaf-covered edge, or letting the dog explore a brushy corner is enough. Lone Star Ticks are also present in the region and linked to Ehrlichiosis and Alpha-gal Syndrome. Our treatments target the transition zones where ticks wait for hosts.
Winter Tick Defense
Mosquito season ends with the first hard frost, usually in late October. Tick season does not. Blacklegged tick adults are active from October through May, any day temperatures rise above freezing. The wooded ground north of I-195 and the river corridor through town provide leaf litter and ground cover that insulates ticks through winter's coldest stretches.
Without treatment, they continue feeding, mating, and building their numbers for months. By spring, the next generation is already in place. Our winter tick defense program treats your property during the months when ticks are active but largely forgotten, giving you a cleaner start to the warm season.
General Pest Control
Bugs don't stay outside on their own. Our foundation treatment stops over 30 types of crawling insects, from ants and spiders to cockroaches and earwigs, before they cross your threshold. If bugs aren't your only concern, add Rodent Prevention and Termite Monitoring to lock down your home from every angle.
