What “All-Natural” Means Here
Our all-natural treatment is a plant-oil formula built on three active ingredients — citronella oil, peppermint oil, and cinnamon oil — mixed with garlic and a sticking agent that helps the treatment cling to foliage and keep working between visits.
It is a minimum-risk formula. That is a real federal category, not a marketing phrase: a minimum-risk pesticide may only use active ingredients from a list the EPA publishes, and every ingredient in it — active and inert — has to be declared on the label. EPA describes the category as products it “has determined pose little to no risk to human health or the environment,” which is why they are exempt from the registration process conventional pesticides go through.

Citronella oil, peppermint oil, and cinnamon oil are all on that list. So is garlic.
What it is not: it is not a candle, a plant, or a gadget. It is a professional liquid treatment applied by a licensed technician, with the same equipment and the same whole-property method as our conventional program. For comparison, our conventional program is built on bifenthrin, a synthetic version of compounds found in chrysanthemum flowers, mixed with the same garlic and sticking agent. Everything else about the two programs is identical. The difference is what is in the tank.
How Plant Oils Work on Mosquitoes
Plant essential oils are concentrated, volatile compounds, and as insecticides they act on contact and as repellents — many of them by disrupting insect neurotransmitters that are not present in people, pets, or other vertebrates. Cinnamon, citronella, garlic, and mint oils are all named members of the class.

Each of our three actives brings something specific.
Citronella oil has been registered with EPA as an insect repellent since 1948. EPA describes it as a volatile oil with a distinctive odor that makes it difficult for some pests to locate a host, registered to repel mosquitoes, black flies, fleas, and ticks, and used in outdoor household areas and around trees and shrubs.

Peppermint oil and cinnamon oil — and the garlic we mix in — each reduced mosquitoes’ attraction to human odor in laboratory testing of ingredients from EPA’s minimum-risk list by New Mexico State University researchers.
Cinnamon oil also kills. Its main component, cinnamaldehyde, was strongly toxic to mosquito larvae in laboratory testing, including the larvae of the Asian tiger mosquito — the daytime biter behind most backyard complaints in our markets.
On the leaf, the finished formula does both jobs. Its label states that it kills and controls adult mosquitoes and ticks when used as directed, and that it is formulated for residual activity — meaning the deposit keeps working on treated surfaces after the spray has dried, not only on contact. The garlic and the sticking agent are in the tank to help that deposit stay put.
What the Research Says About Plant-Oil Treatments Applied Professionally
The honest picture is that results across this product category vary — and that the variation has as much to do with how a product is applied as with which oils are in it. That is not a weakness in our program. It is the reason our program is built the way it is.
CDC-published research reviewing minimum-risk plant-oil products found that effectiveness ranged from similar to chemical pesticide products for some products to minimal for others. The standout: a plant-oil product built on rosemary and peppermint oils, applied by a pest control firm using high-pressure spraying, was as effective as a bifenthrin product at reducing host-seeking blacklegged ticks for several months after a single application. The same review notes that products applied by low-pressure spraying held their protection for a shorter window.

On the mosquito side, a peer-reviewed Florida field trial compared three pyrethroid and two botanical barrier sprays against the Asian tiger mosquito. A botanical product tied a pyrethroid for the largest reduction of adult females — about 90 percent — and the authors concluded that mosquito control operations should expand their consideration of botanical insecticides.
Those were other products, not ours. What they establish is that plant-oil barrier treatments are real, and that application is the variable that moves the result. High-pressure application, across the whole property, on a schedule, is how we apply ours.
And here is the number that is ours, because it is counted: about 1 in 100 of our visits needs an unscheduled return before the next scheduled treatment. The industry average is nearly 6 in 100, per the 2026 PCT State of the Mosquito Control Market Report. And the all-natural program and the conventional program bring us back at practically the same rate. That is our own field record on real properties, not a controlled study — and it is the reason we offer the natural program at any plan frequency, with the same promise.
Where the Treatment Goes: the Whole Property
We treat the full property — the lawn as well as the perimeter — and there is strategy behind that. Mosquitoes concentrate in shaded, sheltered vegetation: the undersides of broad-leaved shrubs, dense ground cover, the margins along fence lines, and the edge where lawn meets woods. Treating the thickets, shrubs, and trees along the perimeter of a yard knocks down the population resting there.

So your technician gives that resting habitat the most attention — under canopies, into the lower few feet of dense plantings, along wooded edges — and treats the open ground too. Two reasons the whole property matters. First, ticks ride in on host animals, and an animal crossing your yard does not stay politely at the property line — treating the lawn covers what gets dropped inside it. Second, a perimeter-only application can leave pests active inside the treated ring — we would rather clear the yard than fence them in.
And resting habitat is not only the property line. The bushes and trees inside a yard, the plantings around the house, and the shaded vegetation around a deck or pool are all resting habitat, and all of it gets attention on a visit.
What to Expect Over a Season
Any barrier treatment — natural or conventional — is strongest in the first days and weeks after application, and rain, sun, and new growth wear it down from there, on a different clock in every yard. Plant oils are volatile by nature; that volatility is part of how they work, and it is also why no honest company quotes a number of days for them. We do not sell a number. We sell a schedule, and we build the treatment to hold: the sticking agent and garlic in the tank, high-pressure application that drives the material into dense foliage, and coverage of the whole property rather than a ring around it.
One mechanism is worth understanding because it explains the schedule. A contact treatment stays on the plant surface — it is not absorbed into the plant or moved through it — so every leaf that opens after the technician leaves is untreated. In June and July a hedge can put out a lot of brand-new, completely untreated resting habitat in a few weeks.

How Often We Treat

Choosing Between the All-Natural and Conventional Programs
Both programs are applied by the same licensed technicians, to the whole property, on the same schedule options, and both carry the same satisfaction guarantee: if you see pests between scheduled treatments, we come back and re-treat. What Happens on Treatment Day
A standard visit runs the same way whether your program is conventional or all-natural. You hear from us twice before we arrive — a text the night before, and another when your technician is on the way. You do not need to be home: everyone inside, pets included, windows and doors closed, and the gate unlocked. The visit starts with a walk-through, dumping any standing water your technician finds along the way, and then the treatment goes down in a deliberate order — perimeter first, then around the house, then the entire lawn — steering clear of vegetable gardens and anything in bloom. After the visit, stay off treated areas until the spray has dried — typically 30 to 45 minutes. That is the label direction for our all-natural product: do not enter treated areas until the spray has dried. Once dry, the yard is ready to enjoy.
Bees and Other Pollinators
We plan every application around pollinators, and it shows up in the practices: technicians treat resting habitat — shaded foliage, ground cover, wooded edges — and never spray vegetable gardens or anything in bloom, dandelions and clover included. Our all-natural product’s label says the same thing in its own words: it is not to be applied while bees or other pollinators are foraging in the treatment area. Careful timing and targeting are how a professional treatment and a healthy pollinator population share the same yard.
